TritonUAS (est’d 2005) is the premier aviation club at UC San Diego. We are an interdisciplinary student-run team which designs, builds, tests, and flies our own UAV. We compete in the Student UAS Competition, hosted by the AUVSI Seafarer Chapter, against >70 international teams. The competition requires teams to have an aircraft that can fly autonomously, avoid obstacles and identify designated ground targets.
Designs, analyzes, and manufactures a lightweight and reliable composite aircraft to house and transport a variety of avionics packages along with a custom camera gimbal and airdrop mechanism.
Responsible for managing all electronics on the plane, from connecting them before flights to extending the functionality of the plane through our projects. Our powerboard, signals board, and antenna tracker create a more robust electronics backbone for our plane to succeed in its mission.
Designs and programs the software systems necessary to perform an autonomous mission, which includes path planning, computer vision, and networking between the ground control station and the plane.
Manages the team’s financial needs, contacts sponsors, and outreach in the form of events, blog posts, designs graphics and runs social media.
Triton UAS has members from over 10 different majors including Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Computer Science. Members get to tackle the complexities of their project while collaborating closely with those of other disciplines.
Members can participate in any of our 4 distinct subteams: Mechanical, Electrical, Software, and Business.
